Green Tea Tips

bulletSelect a Green Tea product with highest concentration of EGCg (Epigallocatechin gallate).  Research indicates that EGCg is the most active of all of the Green Tea Catechins (or constituents).  Only EGCg is linked with fat and weight loss, not the other Green Tea compounds.
bulletGreen tea extracts range from 30% EGCg to 94% EGCg.
bulletMost green tea solids (the dried leaves) in the US range from 2% to 4% EGCg; however specially handled Japanese green tea solids can be as high as 13% (matcha tea).
bulletIf the label doesn't specify EGCg concentration, don't buy it since it is likely to contain very little EGCg.

When shopping, compare price based on EGCg concentration.

Order GreenT+

You need at least three 60mL bottles of any competitor to equal one bottle of GreenT+  (GreenT+ contains 150 mg EGCg/ml)

bulletSelect a Green Tea Extract supplement rather than a green tea beverage. A clinical study published in December 2004 issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition compared the effect of the same amount of active Green Tea compounds when drank as a beverage and taken as a supplement.  The study found that green tea extract supplements produced a small but significantly greater antioxidant activity over eight hours in comparison to drinking green tea (Henning SM et. al. Bioavailability and antioxidant activity of tea flavanols after consumption of green tea, black tea, or a green tea extract supplement. Am J Clin Nutr. 2004 Dec;80(6):1558-64.)
bulletSelect products containing ascorbic acid, citric acid, lemon juice, or other natural acids.  These natural acids stabilize EGCg and prevent its degradation into EGC (Epigallocatechin), a much less active green tea compound
bulletBottled green tea beverages typically lose 20% of EGCg content during bottling process because heating.  This also occurs when brewing green tea.
bulletSelect a liquid Green Tea Extract rather than a pill or capsule. Research indicates that green tea's oral health benefits require direct contact with the mouth.
bulletAvoid supplements containing water, EGCg degrades in water.
bulletAvoid products containing cavity causing ingredients like honey, sugar, or alcohol, for maximum oral health benefits.  Stevia, lo han, sugar alcohols, and artificial sweeteners are ok.

GreenT+: was designed to deliver maximum EGCg.  It contains 150 mg/ml EGCg (3x more than others), in a base of vegetable glycerin (no water), with added Ascorbic acid for stability.

Don't waste your money on inferior green tea products.

Usage Tips

bulletDo not add milk, cream, or other non-dairy creamers to green tea.  USDA research indicates that EGCg maintains healthy blood sugar, but this effect is reduced when these products are added.*  Adding lemon juice was ok; it had no effect on ability to maintain healthy blood sugar
bulletFor weight loss, take at least 270 mg EGCg/day in divided doses.  This will duplicate the EGCg intake used in weight loss research.
bulletCaffeine enhances rate of fat and weight loss.
bullet60 ml of competitors will last 10 days or less when using for weight loss.  60 ml of GreenT+ lasts a full 30 days.
