Sweet+ and Stevia Safety
Stevia extracts are approved for human consumption
as a food additive in Asia, and in Latin America, and as a supplement in Canada,
Australia, USA and some European Countries. The highest consumption of Stevia-based
extracts is in Brazil, Korea, and Japan. All recent studies (since 1999) have indicated
that the contents of Sweet+ have no detrimental effects on human health.
In fact, clinical studies have found that high intakes of stevia (0.75 to 3
grams per day) are associated with health benefits without any adverse side-effects.

"More elaborate safety tests were performed by the Japanese
during their evaluation of stevia. Few
substances have ever yielded such consistently negative results in toxicity
trial as have stevia. Almost every toxicity test imaginable has been
performed on stevia extract (concentrate) or stevioside at one time or another.
The results are always negative. No abnormalities in weight change, food intake,
cell or membrane characteristics, enzyme and substrate utilization, or
chromosome characteristics. No cancer, no birth defects, no acute and no chronic
untoward effects. Nothing." , Dr. Daniel Mowrey
